About Me & My Inspiration for this Blog

For some reason Afros (a la Angela Davis) represent the African American revolution for civil rights. However, the visual culture of the civil rights movement is much more diverse. Rosa Parks was a revolutionary as well. She didn't just get tired one day (despite what we were told in first grade).

She didn't wear an Afro, but a flower in her hair on that fateful day--December 1, 1955. However, she was still a revolutionary (who was also a seamstress)!

I will never wear another flower again without thinking about Rosa. She is my inspiration for Revolutionary Roses...

I must admit that I am a selfish seamstress. I create sweet, chic clothes & accessories for myself with vintage inspiration that refer back to an era of extraordinarily brave women who also had extraordinary poise, style, and grace.

While Rosa inspired the initial idea for the collection, there a several women in my life and throughout African American women's history who inspired individual pieces in my wardrobe. My grandmother was also a master seamstress.

Each piece is unique, heartfelt, and diverse with my awesome legacy in mind. Thank you for visiting my blog.
